Although our members often charter their cars to an individual or company, many offer travel opportunities to others. As individual car owners inform us of opportunities where space is available on their car(s), those travel opportunities will be posted here.

Join the Friends of the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad on another fun and relaxing private car charter.  Journey with us to New Orleans to celebrate Valentine’s Day aboard a fleet of restored private railcars from the streamlined era of rail passenger travel.  Our four-car consist will include a dome-observation, lounge and two 10 & 6 sleeping cars. 

We begin our 1,995 mile trip on Friday February 12th by boarding at Los Angeles Union Station at approximately 9:30pm for a 10:00pm departure behind Amtrak’s Sunset Limited.  Enjoy a few cocktails and some conversation before retiring for the evening as we leave the L.A. metro area heading east.

Arriving in the "Big Easy" on Sunday Evening February 14th you can now enjoy the time we have in New Orleans!  Visit the French Quarter, Audubon Zoo, National WWII Museum, Aquarium of the Americas, The Superdome, Harrah’s Casino and Jackson Square or take a Swamp Tour!  Attractions and restaurants are easy access from the Amtrak Station with street car service close to the front door.

With a Wednesday February 17th 9:00am departure from New Orleans and we are now heading west back to Los Angeles with an arrival at 5:35am on Friday February 19th.

Private cars for this charter will be; Santa Fe Barbershop-Bar-Lounge ACOMA, Santa Fe 10-6 Sleeper PALM LEAF, Pennsylvania Railroad Budd built 10&6 Sleeper SILVER RAPIDS and CB&Q Vista-Dome/Sleeper/Lounge/Observation SILVER SOLARIUM.  An all stainless steel consist!

We have Roomettes (sleeps 1 person with private sink in room) at $2,640/person and Double Bedrooms (sleeps 2 people with private toilet & sink in room) at $2,675/person based on double occupancy still available in the PALM LEAF and SILVER RAPIDS. These two cars have a shower/changing room plus restrooms at the end of the car.  All the Double Bedrooms are configured in traditional Pullman style with an upper and lower berth. 

Fares include meals enroute plus water, soft drinks, juices, snacks, beers and wines.  Feel free to bring other libations that you desire.  Lunch and dinner will be on your own during the layover in New Orleans.  We will be parked at the Amtrak Station in New Orleans and are permitted to stay on the cars during our three nights there.  If you desire to stay in a hotel in New Orleans, that will be at your cost.

Back by popular demand, the Friends of the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad are once again offering a Los Angeles to Seattle private car charter behind Amtrak’s Coast Starlight. Following an initial invitation to our Friends, limited space remains for additional guests.

Join us for a relaxing and memorable trip along one of the country’s most scenic railroad routes. Our three-car private charter will consist of ex-Milwaukee Road business car MONTANA, ex-Santa Fe 10-6 sleeper PALM LEAF and ex-Santa Fe buffet lounge car ACOMA. Enjoy a beautiful ride up the California coast as our trip then takes us through the Bay Area, the Cascades, the Willamette Valley, Portland and finally to the Emerald City of Seattle. Great company, great scenery and great food! If you missed our highly successful tour last year, here is your opportunity!

This trip is a fundraising event. A small portion of each fare will help support the Friends of the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad, Inc. ongoing preservation and interpretive mission.

Join us onboard DEARING and BERLIN for an elegant trip from CHICAGO through rural Illinois to Rock Island, IL. We will travel on the old Rock Island Line, with some of the trip behind steam, as we participate in the AAPRCO Rocket to AAPRCO's mid-term meeting at Rock Island. This is a rare mileage special train with the return trip on the BNSF. Most of the trip is off the Amtrak system.

We have six (6) en suite (private shower sink and toilet) bedrooms available.

We will also consider a limited number of day riders for the special train segments.

National Railway Historical Society 2016 Convention

Join us for a breathtaking cross-country adventure on two historic private railcars to visit the 2016 National Railway Historical Society convention at Denver. The convention is being held at the Holiday Inn East - Stapleton from July 19th thru July 24th, just a short ride from Denver Union Station on the new commuter rail A line.

Our trip includes 16 meals cooked and served onboard our 1923 vintage lounge car, and our spacious 1949 built sleeper offers accomodations for 21 passengers during the eight nights of travel. For an additional $40 per night, we are offering the opportunity to stay onboard our sleeper parked in Denver Union Station for the six night duration of the NRHS convention.

Our route will be that of Amtrak's Crescent, Capitol Limited and California Zephyr, with 5 days in each direction to experience the breadth of American scenery. Both directions of travel feature a day in Chicago to enjoy the transportation hub of the midwest.

AAPRCO 39th Annual Convention
Spokane, Washington
September 20-22, 2016

AAPRCO is planning to hold our 2016 annual convention at Spokane, Washington on September 20-22.

Denver CO has been proposed as the point of origin of a convention special train which would operate one way to Spokane over the course of several days. A routing has been proposed, and an alternate routing is also being actively considered.

We anticipate various car owners will offer space onboard their cars for this trip. Look here in spring 2016 for more information as proposals are evaluated and become more fully developed plans.
