A WORD ABOUT THE COST OF TRAVEL
BY PRIVATE RAILROAD CAR

On January 1, 2014, Amtrak increased their private car mileage charge by $0.30 per mile from the baseline rate in effect since 2007. On October 1, 2014, they will increase it by an additional $0.35 per mile. In addition, they have also mandated a number of costly new inspection requirements (ultra-sonic testing of wheels and axles) that are being implemented in 2014. We anticipate these factors, along with certain other factors, will contribute to an increase in the cost of luxurious travel by private railroad car.
