APPRCO's thirty-second annual convention will be held at Savannah, Georgia from Thursday, November 5 to Saturday, November 7, 2009. The convention is open only to members of AAPRCO, their family and their personal guests. This year's convention special train will be named the James L. Larson Florida Special, in honor of the late Jim Larson and in recognition of the time and talent he contributed to successfully planning and managing the special trains of numerous prior AAPRCO conventions. Here is some information from individual private car owners who are offering accommodations on their trip to the convention. AAPRCO's Company Store has some convention related merchandise available. You do not have to be a member of AAPRCO or a registered participant in the 2009 convention to purchase this merchandise. Please note there are no opportunities for the general public to see or tour the cars while they are parked at Amtrak's Savannah station during the convention. The information here is current as of September 25, 2009. We will update this site as necessary. Saturday, October 31st All cars participating in the special train must arrive Washington DC by today. Happy Halloween! Sunday, November 1st Cars will be inspected, fully serviced and special train will be made up at Ivy City servicing & inspection facility, Washington DC. Monday, November 2nd Special train departs Washington early morning and travels the former Richmond, Fredericksburg & Potomac and the CSX "A" line (former Atlantic Coast Line) arriving Jacksonville FL late evening. Parked at Jacksonville FL overnight. Tuesday, November 3rd This morning we will depart Jacksonville and travel south on the Florida East Coast Railway, crossing the Saint Johns River bridge and traveling along the scenic east coast of north Florida to City Point where the train will park until Wednesday morning. A special lunch and extensive tour of the Kennedy Space Center will take place over the next 4 hours. Wednesday, November 4th This morning we will proceed north on the Florida East Coast Railway to St. Augustine, Florida, the oldest city in the United States. Our passengers will disembark and have 5 hours for a tour and lunch in St. Augustine. Following the St. Augustine tour, we will depart mid-afternoon and travel north on the Florida East Coast Railway to Jacksonville. Then we continue north on CSX, arriving Savannah at 8:30 pm. Cars are parked at Amtrak's Savannah station. The convention will be held in beautiful historic Savannah, Georgia with the Desoto Hilton, 15 East Liberty St., Savannah, GA 31401 as our convention headquarters. Georgia Operation Lifesaver will position their Mobile Educational Exhibit in the Savannah station parking lot during the convention. Thursday, November 5th Friday, November 6th Convention activities at Savannah. Saturday, November 7th Convention activities at Savannah. Sunday, November 8th Special train departs Savannah and travels north on CSX "S" line (former Seaboard Air Line) and the former Richmond, Fredericksburg & Potomac, arriving Washington in late evening.
