AAPRCO is pleased to announce our plans for the midterm 2017 meeting at Kansas City, with a special train one-way from Chicago to Kansas City.
Thursday, May 18
Our trip will originate from Chicago Union Station. To avoid scheduling conflicts with Metra, plan for a very early morning departure.
From the Windy City, we’ll travel west on the Union Pacific’s Geneva Subdivision to Clinton, Iowa, on the Mississippi River.
At Clinton, we’ll continue west into Iowa on the UP’s Clinton Subdivision to the town of Nevada, just east of Ames. At Nevada, the Trenton Subdivision will take us south to our destination – – Kansas City.
The 570-mile trip includes lots of rare mileage on Union Pacific main-line track. The trip and routing are subject to final approval from Union Pacific.
Friday, May 19th
In addition to our mid-year meetings for the general membership and car owners, Friday’s program may include presentations from Amtrak, Union Pacific, and others. Final hotel and schedule details will be released in the next few weeks.
Saturday, May 20th
While our directors hold their mid-year board meeting, the membership has an opportunity to explore the wealth of attractions Kansas City has to offer. These include the World War I Museum and Liberty Memorial, Science Center at Union Station Kansas City, Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Arabia Steamboat Museum, Kaufman Memorial Gardens, and the Kansas City Zoo, to name a few.
For those interested in shopping and restaurants, Country Club Plaza is one of the nation’s premier retail, dining and entertainment destinations. This historic district boasts 15 blocks of high-end shops and dozens of fine dining establishments.
Sunday, May 21st
Participating cars depart for home on Amtrak’s Southwest Chief.
NOTE: The trip and routing are subject to final approval from Union Pacific. Trip pricing, hotel rates, program speakers, and other details will be forwarded over the next couple weeks as soon as they are available.
