Chicago – AAPRCO Convention – Chicago
September 11 – 24, 2017

We are taking our PACIFIC SUNSET to AAPRCO’s 2017 convention in Burlington VT and we have room for you.  Here is our itinerary:

9/11: The Pacific Sunset will depart Chicago headed for Albany, NY behind the Lakeshore Limited at approximately 9:30 pm.

9/12: Upon arrival in Albany-Rensselaer around 2:30pm, guests will have an evening on their own in town before returning to the car for the night.

9/13: This will be a day of building the convention special train and guests will have the day to spend exploring the capitol city. The car will likely not be accessible for most of the day due to movements in the yard, so plan to re-board after 5 pm.

9/14: The Green Mountain Flyer departs Albany-Rensselaer and travels to Utica NY.  We take a ride on the Adirondack Scenic RR, making  stops at Otter Lake then Thendara for a BBQ lunch before returning to Utica for the night.

9/15 & 9/16: From Utica, the special train will make its way to Saratoga Springs, famous for its shopping and race track that hosts many horse races every year. We will spend 2 nights in this vibrant city so you will have plenty of time to explore the sights or the shopping or go take a soak in the Springs! You will have the opportunity to ride Saratoga & North Creek Railway’s domeliner to North Creek in the Adirondacks and return. There will also be trips to Lake George for a 2 hour cruise and a tour of the racetrack and racing museum. You will not be bored in Saratoga Springs!

9/17: We will leave Saratoga Springs and ride the exciting and beautiful cliffside rails along the westside of Lake Champlain as far north as Plattsburgh NY before returning south to Whitehall then east and overnighting in Rutland, VT.

9/18: Departing Rutland we head for Burlington, VT, the site of our convention. Upon arrival in Burlington, all passengers are invited to an included dinner cruise and reception. Guests may stay aboard the Pacific Sunset, or move to the convention hotel.

9/19: Our convention starts with a keynote address by Wick Moorman, CEO of Amtrak, followed by the popular “Ask Amtrak” meeting. Meetings will continue throughout the day. Car party #1 is held this evening.

9/20: No convention activities this day so guests have the day to sign up for excursions, or explore the area on their own. Car party #2 is this evening.

9/21: Membership meetings are held today as well as more optional tours. This evening is a Bon Voyage cocktail party for all convention participants and train riders.

9/22: This morning we head back toward Albany-Rensselaer with a 4 hour stop in Manchester VT to visit the Hildene museum and have a photo op at the restored station in Bennington. We have a late evening arrival at Albany-Rennselaer, where the Green Mountain Flyer terminates.

9/23: PACIFIC SUNSET will depart Albany-Rensselaer at 7:05 pm on the Lake Shore Ltd headed back to Chicago.

9/24: Planned arrival in Chicago is at 9:45am

Guests on PACIFIC SUNSET will have a relaxed experience that may be unlike other private cars. You will have tasty meals and a variety of beverages to choose from throughout the day. Feel free to bring your own favorite alcohol as we provide beer, wine and soft drinks, but not booze. There will be a well traveled dog aboard. Your bed won’t be made daily, but we will show you how to do it if you want! You will be comfortable and well fed, but not as pampered as you might find on other cars. Our pricing, however, reflects this. If you would like to join the car in Kansas City (its home) or ride back to Kansas City after the trip, just ask.

For this trip, we have 2 roomettes available for $4000 each (single occupancy) and 3 double bedrooms available at $8000 each (double occupancy).

Meals are included while rolling. Continental breakfast is included on days we are stationary. While stopped in towns, meals are on your own. Excursions, AAPRCO membership (required to ride the AAPRCO special train), convention registration, and gratuities are not included in the pricing.

For more information or to reserve a spot, please contact Katy at 541-815-6403 or katygogo@gmail.com. Please note that until Amtrak approves move requests, the dates in and out of Chicago could change slightly, but the dates shown above are what we’re planning on.

Hope to see you aboard!
