AAPRCO’s thirty-fifth annual convention will be held at Chattanooga, Tennessee on September 27-29, 2012.
We are planning a special train, operated by Amtrak in conjunction with Norfolk Southern, which will be named the “Chattanooga Limited.” This special train will operate in the District of Columbia, Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee. The routing is Washington DC to Spencer NC on September 24, Spencer NC to Asheville NC on September 25, Asheville NC to Chattanooga TN on September 26, Chattanooga TN to Roanoke VA on September 30, and Roanoke VA to Washington DC on October 1. It will cover a substantial amount of mileage off the Amtrak national system, on tracks where there is no scheduled passenger service. All of the mileage we will traverse is the routes of former Southern Railway or former Norfolk & Western Railway passenger trains. Norfolk Southern has approved this special train.
Our traditional convention activities will be conducted between Thursday, September 27 through Saturday, September 29 at Chattanooga. These include two car parties, technical seminars, the car owners meeting, the associates meeting, the annual meeting, off-site tours (a steam special excursion behind locomotive 630 at the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum, and a ride on the Lookout Mountain Incline Railway), vendor activities, the board of directors meeting and the annual banquet.
