40th Annual Convention
Burlington, Vermont
September 18-22, 2017

Updated on August 29, 2017

Our fortieth annual convention will be held in Burlington, Vermont on Monday afternoon September 18th through Friday morning September 22nd, 2017.

In cooperation with Amtrak , the Vermont Rail System, the Adirondack Scenic Railroad, the Mohawk, Adirondack & Northern Railroad, and the Finger Lakes Railway, our convention special train, The Green Mountain Flyer, will offer travel over scenic routes in New York, Massachusetts and Vermont on its journey from Albany-Rensselaer NY to Burlington VT and return.  Our current plan has the train originating at Albany-Rensselaer NY on September 14th, and terminating there on September 22nd.  We are revising the planned route of the train due to Canadian Pacific’s surprise refusal to operate the train over their lines in New York, despite the fact that the requested route was regular Amtrak mileage on Canadian Pacific.  The revised routing is Albany-Rensselaer NY – Utica NY – Thendara NY – Utica NY – Geneva NY – Rutland VT – Burlington VT – Albany-Rensselaer NY.

Activities planned for the two night visit to Geneva (which replaces Saratoga Springs in our itinerary) include a dinner cruise on Lake Canandaigua and a tour of local wineries.

Our traditional convention activities will be conducted in Burlington. The Burlington Hilton located at 60 Battery Street in downtown Burlington will be our convention hotel. The Green Mountain Flyer will be parked in the Vermont Rail System yard right next to Lake Champlain, a short distance from the hotel.  Our activities will include car parties, technical seminars, vendor activities, the car owners meeting, the associate members meeting, the annual meeting, and the board of directors meeting.

While we are at Burlington, there will be two excursions ashore and one afloat. On the night of our arrival, we will have an evening cruise on Lake Champlain in the Spirit of Ethan Allen. The first excursion will be to the Shelburne Museum and the Vermont Teddy Bear Factory. The second excursion will be to the Town of Stowe for a ride to the top of Mount Mansfield (the hightest peak in Vermont) on the Stowe Gondola. We will then go to the Trapp Family Lodge for a lunch in the their new brew pub. Lunch will be followed by a history tour at the lodge led by a Trapp Family grandchild. The Trapp family was made famous by the Sound of Music play and movie.

Please save the dates and make your plans to join us.

Please note there will be no opportunities for the general public to tour the cars while they are parked at Albany-Rensselaer NY, Thendara NY, Utica NY, Geneva NY, Rutland VT and Burlington VT during the operation of the Green Mountain Flyer special train and the convention.
