The year 2022 marks forty five years since AAPRCO was founded in 1977.  Our 2022 convention, which will be our 44th annual convention, will be held at Chicago, Illinois, on Metra.  The dates are Saturday September 3rd thru Monday September 6th, which is the Labor Day holiday weekend.

Participating cars should arrive at Chicago Union Station by August 31st

  • On Saturday, September 3rd, our Chicagoland Special will travel over two ex-Milwaukee suburban routes, Elgin, and Fox Lake, with a stop for lunch in Fox Lake.  Returning to Chicago Union Station, we will proceed to Joliet via the route of Amtrak’s St. Louis trains and from there to LaSalle Street Station to park the train. The day’s activities conclude with a Welcome Reception in the Library Room at the Union League Club.
  • On Sunday September 4th, the Chicagoland Special journeys to Kensington where the Chicago South Shore Railroad — formerly the Chicago, South Shore, and South Bend — will take us to Michigan City, Indiana, then southeast on a former Nickel Plate branch to Dillon, Indiana. At Dillon we will reverse direction and return to LaSalle Street Station. Guests are free that evening to explore the lights, attractions, and dining options of the The Windy City.
  • The morning of Monday, September 5th, is reserved for our annual meeting. In the afternoon, we will travel on regular Metra trains to the Pullman National Monument. The Pullman site includes the Pullman Palace Car factory, the famous planned “company town” of Pullman, the Hotel Florence, and the restored Clocktower Administration Building which houses the Pullman Museum. The Pullman Foundation building will feature a traveling exhibit, Railroaders: The Wartime Photography of Jack Delano.  That evening, we will enjoy our signature car party event at LaSalle Street Station.
  • For Tuesday, September 6th, we are working on a trip to Union, Illinois, to visit the Illinois Railroad Museum. The convention will conclude that evening with a dinner cruise on the Chicago River.

*Schedule is subject to change.  Please consult your AAPRCO newsletters for the latest information.

Our hotel for the 2022 annual meeting will be the Union League Club of Chicago at 65 West Jackson Boulevard.  The ULC’s elegant accommodations include two restaurants, a gastro pub, a coffee shop, multiple event spaces, six floors of fitness facilities, conference rooms, a library, remote workspaces, and overnight guest rooms.

The Union Leagues of America was founded in 1862 in Pekin, Illinois, to affirm the patriotic cause of the Union, support the policies of Illinoisan Abraham Lincoln and combat pro-slavery secret societies infiltrating Illinois and elsewhere. Thousands of Union Leagues of America branches organized around the country and, with their objectives met, most disbanded after the war.  As Chicago burned and then boomed during the 1870s, former Union League members in the Chicago area began discussing the establishment of a downtown club and on December 19, 1879, the Union League Club of Chicago was incorporated.

Rooms at the ULC will be $259 per night plus surcharge.

The special train and convention activities are reserved exclusively for AAPRCO members.
