On January 17th 2022, Steven J. Gardner assumed the position as CEO of Amtrak replacing William J. Flynn. Flynn is retiring but is expected remain as a senior advisor into late 2022. Gardner has been a part of Amtrak since 2009 and has also served as the Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Operating and Commercial Officer. Gardner has been a career railroader and has received support from Transportation Secretary Buttigieg.
