Please note that participation in the convention, including ridding on the convention special train requires membership in AAPRCO. Click here for membership information.

There is room on many cars for day riders on the Special Train.  Contact the car owners for information.


The following 21 cars are scheduled to participation in the convention special train:

Western train from and to Chicago: Pacific Union, Metis, Point St. Charles, Chico 37, Pacific Sands, Scottish Thistle, Vista Canyon, Diablo Canyon, Federal, Oliver Hazard Perry, Birch Grove, Vista Dome, Northern Sky, Northern Dreams, and Chapel Hill.  From Chicago off at Tyrone: Hollywood Beach

Eastern train on at Rensselaer off at Tyrone:  Hickory Creek,Mount Vernon, J Pinckney Henderson, Hollywood Beach (one way Steamtown to Washington), Colorado Pine, and Dover Harbor.

Thursday September 14th: Cars participating in AAPRCO convention special train arrive in Chicago.

Monday September 18th: We will spend today and tomorrow traveling on various short line railroads in Vermont. Depart Albany-Rensselaer at 7:00 AM and travel the route of Amtrak's Ethan Allen to Rutland, Vermont. Our journey continues via Bellows Falls to a 6:45 PM arival at Saint Albans. Park overnight in Saint Albans VT. Dome car passengers are accomodated on other cars in the special train; hotel accomodations will be available for them at Saint Albans.

Tuesday September 19th: We continue our travels thru Vermont, departing Saint Albans at 7:00 AM and traveling thru Burlington to Rutland, where we follow the route of Amtrak's Ethan Allen for the remainder of our trip to Albany-Rensselaer, arriving at 5:15 PM. Dome cars are switched back into the consist of the special train at Albany-Rensselaer. Parked overnight at Albany-Rensselaer.

Wednesday September 20th: Today we depart Albany-Rensselaer at 7:00 AM and travel to Scranton PA via Binghamton NY. Our arrival at Scranton is scheduled for 4:00 PM. The cars will be parked at Steamtown National Historic Site.

The Radisson Lackawanna Station Hotel, located approximately two and one-half blocks from the convention site, is the official convention hotel.

Thursday September 21st: First day of convention. Convention activities (meetings, seminars, etc.) will be held at Steamtown National Historic Site and the Radisson Lackawanna Station Hotel, and are only open to members who are registered for the convention. Shuttle service between Steamtown, the car parking area and the hotel. During the convention, you will have an opportunity to visit the Electric City Trolley Museum located adjacent to Steamtown; you will receive a ticket to ride the Laurel Line electric interurban at a time of your choosing.

8:30 am - ? pm: All day Steamtown excursion, behind steam, from Steamtown to East Stroudsburg, Delaware Water Gap and return.
6:30 pm - 9:00 pm: Car party

Friday September 22nd: Second day of convention.

9:00 am - 10:00 am: Associate Members meeting.
10:00 am - 11:00 am: Car Owners meeting
11:00 am - 12:00 am: Seminar "Operating Special Trains on Regional and Shortline Railroads"
12:00 am - 1:15 pm: Lunch
1:15 pm - 3:00 pm: Seminar "Ask Amtrak Discussion"
3:00 pm - 4:45 pm: Seminar "Amtrak Mechanical"
6:30 pm - ? : Banquet at Radisson Lackawanna Station Hotel

Saturday September 23rd: Third day of convention.

10:00 am - 11:00 am: Charter Referral & Web Committee meeting
11:00 am - 12:00 am: Seminar "Increase Your Charters Thru Creative Marketing" (tentative)
12:00 am - 1:15 pm: Lunch
1:15 pm - ? : Annual Meeting ... followed by short break ... Board Meeting
6:30 pm - 9:00 pm: Car party

Sunday September 24th. The special train departs Steamtown at 7:00 AM for Sunbury, Lock Haven and Tyrone. Arrival at Tyrone is scheduled for 3:30 PM. At Tyrone, the consist is split.

The eastern section departs Tyrone at 4:40 PM and travels east along the "broad way" of the former PRR main line, arriving/terminating Philadelphia PA at 9:00 PM.

Monday September 25th: Chicago section of the special train departs Pittsburgh at 8:00 AM, arriving at Chicago at 6:00 PM, where it terminates.
