Subject: Railroads - Santa Fe (8/31/1992)
[8/31/92] Movement of Passenger Cars and Freight Trains on Santa Fe - With respect to the Santa Fe, they have issued a bulletin in June, 1992 regarding new procedures for handling passenger cars. You need to refer to their file 37-06.03. Apparently here the problem was cars showing up for movement on the Santa Fe which they did not know were coming, and which again were not in the best condition. The Santa Fe approach is to require information, and then handle such cars only on a case-by-case basis by means of a special contract for each car. All tariffs for the movement of passenger cars are being annulled. If you need to move a car on the Santa Fe, you should first talk to Mr. Jim Vaughn, whose phone number is 913/295-5722 to begin the inspection and clearance process. Once again, we must begin the process of determining what they really need, and attempt to make the requirements reasonable, under the circumstances.
